Many newer fridges use an inverter compressor, which changes speed instead of switching fully on and off, and a no-frost system, which uses a fan and a timed defrost heater to keep the freezer free of ice. These fridges run quietly, so faults are harder to judge by sound alone.
Common faults: the defrost heater, sensor or timer (ice builds up on the freezer back panel and cooling drops), the evaporator fan, and the inverter control board or compressor circuit.

First check that the doors close fully, the seals are clean, nothing blocks the vents inside, the temperature setting is correct and there is space behind the fridge for airflow. In most no-frost fridge-freezers the cold air is made in the freezer, and a fan and an air damper send part of it to the fridge.
