If your air conditioner is running but the room stays warm, one of these causes is usually behind it. Some you can check yourself; others need a technician.
1. Why is my AC not cooling when the filter is dirty?
Dust blocks airflow over the coil. Clean or replace filters regularly, more often in dusty areas. See our guide: AC care in dusty Dubai areas.
2. Is the thermostat set correctly?
Check mode (Cool, not Fan/Dry), set temperature and remote batteries.
3. Could low refrigerant (gas) be the problem?
Low gas usually means a leak. A technician should find and fix the leak before refilling.
4. Is the outdoor unit blocked or dirty?
The condenser needs clear airflow. Debris and dust on the fins reduce cooling.
5. Is the indoor coil frozen?
Ice on the coil blocks cooling; switch off, let it thaw, and have airflow and gas checked.
6. Is there an electrical fault (capacitor, fan motor, compressor)?
Humming, clicking or a fan that won’t start needs a qualified technician—don’t open the unit yourself.
7. Is the drain blocked or the duct leaking?
Blocked drains cause leaks and trip some units; leaking ducts waste cool air in ducted systems.
How often should you service your AC in Dubai?
Check and rinse the filters yourself about once a month, and more often after a dusty spell or sandstorm. Plan a professional service at least once a year, ideally before the hottest months, and sooner if you live in a dusty area, run the AC most of the day, or notice weak cooling, leaks or smells. A full service covers the filters, the indoor coil, the drain line, the outdoor unit and a check of the fan and electrical parts.
Why is my AC not cooling during the day but fine at night?
On the hottest afternoons, the outdoor unit has to push heat into very hot air. A dirty outdoor coil, a unit in direct sun with blocked airflow, low gas or a weak capacitor often shows up first at midday. If the room only cools after sunset, have the outdoor unit and the gas pressure checked.
My AC is running but no water is coming from the drain. Is that a problem?
When an AC cools properly, it also removes moisture, so some water normally drips from the drain pipe on humid days. No water at all, together with weak cooling, can mean the coil is not getting cold, for example from low gas or a compressor fault. Water leaking indoors instead points to a blocked drain.
Split AC or district cooling: who should I call?
If your home has its own split or ducted units with an outdoor unit, an AC technician can repair them. Many apartment towers use district cooling or a central chilled-water system, where the building is responsible for the supply. Check the thermostat and filter, then contact building management first.
What should I send when I book an AC repair?
Send the AC type (split, ducted or window), the brand and a photo of the rating label, how many units are affected, what you notice (no cooling, weak airflow, ice, water, noise or an error code) and your area and location pin.

Yes. Low gas means there is a leak, because refrigerant is not used up. A technician should find and repair the leak, then recharge with the type on the unit’s label. - Do you repair ACs in my area?
